KPSA Grants Call for Applications 2026 Summer

The Japanese Political Science Association is pleased to announce a call for applications for presenter and discussant to be dispatched by JPSA to Korean Political Science Association (KPSA) Annual Conference (Summer), which will be held from August 18-20, 2026, at Busan. The presentation will be held in the joint panel of KPSA and Taiwanese Political Science Association (TPSA) titled “Democracy in Transition: Polarization, Balanced Development, and AI”, scheduled on August 19. We will prioritize applications related to the topic of the panel, but also welcome applications of other topics.

Number of Awards: Approx. 2 JPSA members
*One will be a presenter, and another will be a discussant. For the one selected as a discussant, KPSA will provide presentation materials by around August 10 for discussion. For reference, the presenter from TPSA plans to have a presentation titled “Feeling Like an Orphan: Abandonment-Related Insecurity and Foreign Policy Attitudes in Taiwan”.

Funding Details:
1) For both a presenter and a discussant, accommodation expenses during the conference (two nights) will be paid by KPSA.

2) For both a presenter and a discussant, JPSA will pay up to 50,000 yen to cover air tickets. If selected, one will be asked to provide air ticket receipts and bank account information (through JPSA’s designated form).

Language of Presentation: English

Application Method: If you apply as a presenter, please submit English title and abstract (200-300 words) of the presentation via email, with the subject line “日本政治学会・韓国政治学会報告応募” by Friday, July 3, to the contact listed at the bottom of this call. If you prefer to be dispatched as a discussant in case you are not selected as a presenter, please clearly state your preference in your application. You can also apply only as a discussant. If so, please submit your intention via email by the same due date (no title and abstract are required). The selected presenter and discussant will be decided shortly after the application deadline.
The expected length of the conference paper is approximately 5–10 pages (A4 size), although submission is not mandatory. If not submitting a paper, you will be asked to submit presentation slides. Due date for paper/slides will be Friday, August 7.
